Great characters, interesting situations. So many 'spiritual' books are too simplistic or frankly insulting to those who are spiritually minded. But this was an intriguing book. I'm not sure if I missed it or it wasn't in there, but I wasn't sure how old Clare was. That bugged me sometimes, I wanted to know. But most of the time it worked, not knowing exactly how old she was. I did want to know how old her sister was and to see more of the relationship between them. The relationship with her grandfather was beautiful though. I liked the ending, though it seemed like the beginning of a story, not the end.
The characters were realistic, with flaws. Even Clare, getting distracted when she should have been cleaning up and helping her mother and sister. She had a special spiritual understanding, but she wasn't perfect. Really felt for the pastor, I would have loved to learn more of his story.
The parrot seemed like it should be important, but I can't figure out how. Hopefully this is the beginning of a series, in which case it gets:
9/10.
