I found myself disliking Jonathan more and more as the book went on. I think Abel and Constance are my favorites. Hans drove me a little crazy- he's gotten into schoolboy fights to defend himself, but suddenly now he wouldn't defend his family? I'm against war, but I'm for self-defense. And poor Gerda, I'm hopeful from the last few pages that she thrived.
