I remember reading this book years ago, but I misplaced or loaned my copy. So when I found it again in a bookstore, I decided I'd pick it up and reread it. Parts of it were as good as I remembered. The early lives of the main characters, before they meet, are very good. Their meeting is so-so. Their life together is so bogged down in politics and plots that the story starts to lose focus. Aspasia becomes a minor character in the last third of the book, even though this is supposed to be half her story. The secondary characters, some of them should have been expanded, I think. Good book, though I probably won't read it for a third time.
