The Gest of Robyn Hode
The Gest of Robyn Hode: A Critical and Textual Commentary
by Robert B. Waltz
582p
"The destruction of the Rings of Power brings the end of Sauron — but also the devastation of the power that created Rivendell and Lórien, and the passing of the Elves; it hastens the decline of the Ents and the fading of the dwarves." Hadn't thought of it quite that way before, but yes.
How interesting: Derne means hidden, secret. A little note for fans of J. R. R. Tolkien. Remember the name “Dernhelm,” used by Éowyn in The Lord of the Rings? “Dernhelm” means “hidden helm” or, in effect, “disguised head.” Éowyn gave everything away — if you know your Middle English.
